It’s 2019 – A New Year with Intention

I’ve just added René Beauchemin’s books to Retired Eagle Books. His three novels add a different dimension to the available titles from Amazon and Draft2Digital platforms. I have two other authors, one for fiction and a second for poetry getting ready to submit their works to Retired Eagle Books for publishing.

Since I last wrote, a lot has happened in terms of publishing books. Here is the breakdown of titles:

1. A Broken Boy, by Robert G. Longpré [that’s me] – Book 1 in an autobiographical series dealing with childhood sexual abuse and the road to recovery and healing.
2. On the Broken Road, by Robert G. Longpré – Book 2 in an autobiographical series dealing with childhood sexual abuse and the road to recovery and healing.
3. Journey of Healing, by Robert G. Longpré [in final proofing stages – to be released this spring – Book 3 in an autobiographical series dealing with childhood sexual abuse and the road to recovery and healing.
4. Poetry by the Sea and On the Prairies, by Robert G. Longpré
5. Poetry at Home and in Nature, by Robert G. Longpré
6. Poetry: She, He, We, by Robert G. Longpré
7. The Half-Naked Pilgrim, by René Beauchemin – a novel that is a mixture of reality, fantasy, psychology, and mythology. The protagonist is a pilgrim on the Camino.
8. The Magical Other, by René Beauchemin – a novel that is a mixture of reality, fantasy, psychology, and mythology. The protagonist struggles with the feminine.
9. Reinventing René, by René Beauchemin – a novel that is a mixture of reality, fantasy, psychology, and mythology. The protagonist finds that reality as he has always known it has hidden the true nature of just who he is.

Publishing Symposium in Saskatoon

Tomorrow I will be attending a Publishing Symposium put on by the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild. The event is to happen at the Western Development Museum in the afternoon. The SWG describe the event below:

The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild and SaskBooks are partnering to offer writers and publishers a chance to learn about how to sell your book(s) better. Is direct marketing your best option? How do you get your book into a bookstore? How do you get the bookstore to love your book? Does it really matter what it looks like? These are all questions this symposium will answer.
The symposium consists of a half day of presentations and information on Friday September 29, 2017 at the Western Development Museum (Palace Theatre), in Saskatoon. The symposium covers topics such as how to find a publisher, how to format and submit your manuscript, contract and royalties, self-publishing intensive (including workflow, production, hiring an editor, etc.), working with publishers to market your book, and more.

Now, since I have already published a good number of books, I am not sure just what I will learn to make the future better for me as both a writer and as a publisher. Still, there is no question that there is no such thing as knowing too much. I know that I still have a lot to learn, especially as a publisher.

Through a Jungian Lens: Tunnel Vision

The second book in the series, “Through a Jungian Lens,” is a photographic and poetic journey through the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada.

The unique form of photography found in this book was the result of a “happy accident” or “synchronicity” as it is called in Jungian psychology.  While working on the first book of the series, I was busy taking off and adding lenses using adapter rings also known as bowers.  By placing the telephoto lens on top of the regular lens using a set of three different bowers, I found that at a certain point in the telephoto process, I was able to capture round images rather than the traditional rectangular images associated with photography.

Through a Jungian Lens: Swamplands and Soul

The first book in the series called “Through a Jungian Lens” is called “Swamplands and Soul.”  The book’s photography features the swamplands of the Yucatan province in Mexico, in the area next to a small fishing village called Puerto Chuburná.  The text is oriented to Jungian psychology with a blend of both prose and poetry.  The final section of the book features the poem, “Dark Night of the Soul” which was written in the late 1500s by St. John of the Cross, a Spanish monk.

The book was written to reflect upon the issue of depression in midlife and to provide a sense of hope to those who find themselves in this situation.
